Well, it’s been a while! That’s because I have been flat-out writing, editing and propelling the Of Social Standing series forward. I’m happy to announce that Lady Dixon’s Niece is almost ready for release …. Averill Buchanan – my editor – is polishing up the manuscript as I type š
So what have I been up to? Writing-wise, I focused on the competition scene during the summer and was thrilled to be long-listed for the Writers by the Sea Festival Competition. I was long-listed in the memoir category and short story category, which gave me a lovely boost, I must admit. Then, in the autumn, my flash fiction piece, Clean Cut, was selected by Midland’s Science Curious Words for inclusion in their Science Week publication. I was thrilled with the validation. As a writer, one can face a lot of rejection, and it can be hard at times to motivate oneself to keep going. These little boons were just the reminder I needed that I can write and that readers actually enjoy what I have to say.
I started job-sharing in September at work which has given me a lot more time to commit to writing. The year is flying but so are the words! I’m beavering away on Baron Bovingdon’s Son – the second instalment in the Of Social Standing series. Lots still to do so I best get back to it! š
This is great news – very excited for you! š

Thanks a million Susan. I have to remind myself that it has been a good year, even if I had hoped to have the book on the shelves by now. Still, it’s best not to rush it. I only get one shot at making a first impression. I’m looking forward to 2026 and all it brings. I hope you are getting on well š

You’re making your book the very best it can be before it goes out into the world, and you will be delighted when you discover that all that patience was worth it! All good here, thanks a million. š Here’s hoping that 2026 will be a very special year!
